I have a 68 bird but with the top down and the boot on it looks like the top doesnt go down far enough. I had a guy from a shop tell me I had the wrong inner wheel wells installed, the convertables had wheel wheels with depressions in them so the top could fold down more. I can't find anythings thats shows the difference between regular wheel well and and a convertable wheel well?

I am new to this board so I am not sure if only mods can post solutions to problems.

I have never heard that convertibles had different inner wheel wells different from the hard tops.  My 1969 convertible inner wheel wells have slight depressions in them.

Did you notice if there is insulation on top of the rear wheel wells and if the insulation was right above the seam for the wheel wells?  In order to get the top to close enough it has to close very tight next to the wells causing it to pinch. There is an easy solution, if you make a dimple in your inner wheel wells and new insulation that should allow the top to close all the way.

Be sure that the top frame mechanism is not binding or is getting slightly bent from age or use. I am not sure if you have a manual or automatic top.  I will post how to change fluid in hydraulic top cars for automatic tops.
