Trans Am Firebird Resotr the fuel door mechanisum! Video.
In 1979 Pontiac changed the rear tail lamps on the Trans Am and Firebird models. This new look would run from 1979, 1980, and 1981. It would carry over to a degree in appearance through the early 3rd gen cars also. The 79-81 models had the fuel door access in the center of the rear tail lights with a center section that swung open. This swing mechanisum would however not wear with time well and soon became "floppy". This short video shows you at home how to restore the mechanisum and have it once again operate as GM intended to which is tight with a slight spring action to the flip open swing. This same video works for both the factory "Smoked Tail Lights found on the Trans Am and Formula models, but also on the standard red lens base Firebird models as well.
